4 tips for better SEO performance

Search engine optimization (SEO) specialists are constantly monitoring Google’s ranking algorithm’s to stay current with what matters most in terms of performance in organic searches. Trust and authority of a domain name, and the popularity of a link remain the top factors for performance in Google searches. Another key factor — more than 20 percent of Google’s algorithm — is based on external anchor text links to your website.

Online marketing consultant Neil Patel offers these tips for building a better backlink strategy.

Write guest posts. Yes, you need to write lots of blog posts each month on your own website. But that doesn’t mean you can’t contribute to other blogs. Guest blogging is an effective inbound marketing strategy that doesn’t cost you a thing other than the time it takes to write it. Your name, company and brand will get exposed to a new audience.

Reach out to industry bloggers. Find the bloggers and journalists that you read to learn news about your industry and keep them updated on your company news. Connect on LinkedIn or through Facebook. Tell the person why your pages would be a credible source to mention on their blog.

Build infographics on your website. People love images and visual data. Use this knowledge to your advantage. If your company generates industry data that is safe to share with the public, make infographics. People will use them on their websites and backlink to your page as the data source. Stay relevant and use accurate, recent data.

Actively promote your content. Having a website isn’t enough. You need different avenues to distribute your content across multiple channels. Patel says if you haven’t started using video as a marketing strategy, you need to. Online marketers see the growing use of video (especially on mobile) and are planning accordingly. A YouTube channel will soon be a must-have.
