It’s difficult to admit, but your competitors probably do some things better than you. Don’t fret it; use it as a learning opportunity, says Jared Atchison, co-founder of WPForms, a drag-and-drop form builder for WordPress.
“Healthy competition can inspire you to be greater, and if you take some time to observe what makes your competitors successful, you can discover some secrets that will bump up your company’s visibility and boost your sales,” he states in a post for Business2Community.com.
Atchison recommends using these free tools for gathering competitive intelligence:
1. Google Alerts – Stay up to date when your competitor is mentioned on the internet. Google Alerts sends an email straight to your inbox every time there is a new result online for a competitor you’ve created an alert for.
2. Social Mention – Similar to Google Alerts, only it tracks mentions of your competitors on social media. Social Mention (socialmention.com) searches user-generated content such as blogs, images, video, comments and more for mentions of a company.
3. BuzzSumo – Enter the domain of your competitors and see what content is performing best for them. Displays how many shares they
get on social media and their biggest influencers.
4. Likealyzer – Provides a free report on how your competitor’s Facebook page is performing and gives insights on how it can be improved. Knowing what your competitor is missing from its Facebook strategy can help you improve yours.
5. Woorank – Provides a full report on a competitor’s website, including website speed, backlinks, server downtime and more.
