If a rep leaves a voicemail message for a new prospect first thing in the morning and gets voicemail again on a second attempt later that day, what should the message be?
First things first: Michael Pedone, founder and CEO of SalesBuzz.com, says there are important steps to take between the first call and the second one. After leaving the first message, follow up with an e-mail to the prospect. Also, look to see if the prospect has a LinkedIn profile and send a connection request. While you are LinkedIn, if you notice the prospect has a Twitter account, start to follow that person.
As far as the second voicemail message, it’s important to make it simple and brief, but detailed enough to pique the prospect’s interest.
Example: “I’m calling regarding the voicemail I left you earlier today about how we recently helped competitor 1, 2 and 3 avoid _________ while _________ and wanted to see if it would make sense for us to have a conversation to determine if we could help you as well. I’ll send a follow up e-mail to this message in case it’s easier to reply that way. If you’d rather talk by phone, I’m at _________ .”
“It’s imperative that you, your company or both are doing something on a regular basis that labels you as a value added industry resource to your targeted audience,” Pedone says.
