American Airlines, which invented the frequent flyer program nearly 30 years ago when it launched its AAdvantage program, has introduced a new frequent flyer feature allowing travelers to redeem frequent flyer miles for one-way travel at half the mileage requirement of round-trip travel.
The new feature, called “One-Way Flex Awards,” is the first of its kind among major U.S. domestic airlines.
In addition to using miles for one-way travel, AAdvantage members now can also combine multiple award types—AAnytime miles and MileSAAver miles, for instance, or economy class and first or business class awards—on a single round-trip ticket in order to customize their award travel.
