Association Execs Lobby Washington, Defend Meetings

More than 200 association executives are meeting in Washington, D.C., today for American Associations Day, according to the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) & The Center for Association Leadership, which organized the event. A two-day “legislative fly-in,” it’s designed to educate them about industry issues and connect them with members of Congress so that they can lobby them on behalf of the association community.

“Associations have a real opportunity right now to influence the current administration and voice their opinions on Capitol Hill,” ASAE & The Center President and CEO John H. Graham IV, CAE, said in a statement. “The ASAE Legislative Fly-In provides a great opportunity for association executives to participate in the American Associations Day and meet face-to-face with their local representatives and policy makers.”

ASAE’s Legislative Fly-In began yesterday and concludes today. Along with Congressional meetings, the program has included issue briefings and educational sessions for participants, who’ve learned how to engage in effective grassroots organizing.

Among the issues that American Associations Day participants are focusing on are health care, the economy and, of course, the importance of association meetings and events.
