obdEdge has released a consumer version of cellcontrol, a solution designed to curb the use of mobile devices while driving, for BlackBerry smartphones. cellcontrol works by plugging into the on-board computer of vehicles made in 1996 or later. Using Bluetooth technology and a downloadable application for the BlackBerry smartphone, cellcontrol detects when a vehicle is motion. It then prevents the sending of texts and e-mails, sends incoming calls to voicemail, and prevents outgoing phone calls.
