The top two benefits of social media marketing are increasing exposure and increasing traffic. A whopping 85 percent of all marketers surveyed by The Social Media Examiner indicated that their social media efforts have generated more exposure for their businesses. Increasing traffic was the second major benefit, with 69 percent reporting positive results.
Nearly two-thirds of marketers are using social media to gain marketplace intelligence (65%). Tied for fourth place, 58% of marketers indicated generating leads and developing loyal fans were benefits of social media.
Several categories saw decreases from the 2011 study. Most notably, only 40 percent saw improved sales in 2012, compared to 43 percent in 2011.
