In this episode, we continue our conversation with Paul White, co-author with Gary Chapman of “The 5 Languages of Appreciation in the Workplace.” We talk with Paul about words of affirmation, which is the top love language category for nearly half of all workers.
White explains why praise in the workplace isn’t as straightforward as it may seem. There are many forms and variations of communicating appreciation through words. Employees also may prefer to receive praise one-on-one rather than publicly. And you’re missing an important element of praise in the workplace if words of affirmation only flow from supervisors to subordinates. Establshing an environment of peer-to-peer expressions of appreciation is essential.
